SSD—CDConnection design
Steelwork connection design, coordinated.
We liaise with your preferred connection designer — or arrange one for you — and keep the model and drawings synchronised with the calculations, so connection design never holds up the programme.
SSD—01How it works
Connection design and steel detailing, working together.
Every item of steelwork built under the Building Regulations needs structural design and connection calculations. We don't produce connection design ourselves — but we work closely with whichever structural engineer you choose.
Often the simplest route is to let us arrange it. We regularly have connection design carried out by a consultant we know and trust, and we feed their results straight into the model as they arrive.

SSD—02Design loads
What the connection designer needs.
Connection design sits on the critical path, so it pays to get it moving early. The consultant engineer has to supply the design forces and loads, along with a specification — usually set by the engineer — that includes the design code, such as EC3 or BS 5950.
Because we are already building the model, coordinating with the connection designer on your behalf saves a round of emails, keeps everyone working from the same geometry and gets fabrication drawings to you sooner.

SSD—03FAQs
Connection design questions.
No. We don't produce connection design in-house, but we work with any structural engineer you choose, or arrange the design through a consultant we work with regularly.
