SSD—AAbout SSD

Experienced structural steelwork detailers.

Three decades of drawing steel for UK fabricators, from drawing boards to full 3D modelling. We're with you for the long game.

SSD—01Choose experience

Over thirty years, hundreds of projects.

SSD is a structural steel detailing practice based in West Yorkshire. We have been detailing steel for more than three decades and have completed hundreds of projects — on time, and within the client's budget for the steelwork.

That experience, combined with the most tried and tested 3D modelling software for steel structures, has brought us into close contact with a great many steelwork fabricators. Most of the work we do now comes from fabricators who came back.

We raise and manage RFIs and, where it helps, work directly with your design team for the length of the project. Variations are flagged as we draw, so you are covered for any modifications or additions to the steelwork.

SSD—02What we stand for

Four things we never compromise on.

Drive the project over the line, error free — and earn the next one.

01

Compliance

Detailed to your standards, the engineer's specification and the right design code.

02

Confidentiality

Your drawings, models and client details stay private. Anything shared is anonymised first.

03

Accuracy

Modelled to the bolt hole and checked for clashes before a single sheet is issued.

04

Completeness

Every member, plate, bolt and list accounted for — nothing left for site to work out.

SSD—03The long game

We'd like to be your detailer for the next job too.

We understand your project is very important to you, and that choosing a detailer is a critical decision — the success of the job can hang on it. So we aim to give you the best detailing service possible, and drawings that are on programme and within budget every time.

Our hope is simple: that you come back with your next steelwork project, and that we build a working relationship that benefits both of us for years.

SSD—04How we work

From first call to final issue.

The same five stages on every job, timed around what your shop needs and when. You always know where your drawings are and what comes next.

Stage 01

Quote

Send the engineer's drawings and calcs. You get a free, fixed quote setting out the scope, deliverables and programme — with any information gaps pointed out at the start, not halfway through.

Stage 02

Kick-off & RFIs

We agree your house standards, fabrication sequence and key dates, then review the design package end to end and issue one clear RFI schedule. A site survey or meeting can be arranged where new steel meets old.

Stage 03

Model & early release

The 3D model goes up and is clash-checked. Holding-down bolt plans and an advance material list come out early, so groundworks and stock orders aren't waiting on fabrication drawings.

Stage 04

Approval & check

GA drawings go out for engineer and architect approval, connection design is coordinated, and comments are picked up quickly. Every drawing is checked against the model and the design before release.

Stage 05

Issue & support

Fabrication drawings, NC files, lists and erection plans are issued in your phases with a drawing register. We stay on the job through erection, turning revisions round and answering site queries.

Need something early to keep the job moving, like baseplates, a first phase or a material list for a stock order? Tell us at kick-off and we'll plan the release around it.
